SUMMARY:Shaping the Future of Life Sciences: West Midlands Business Breakfast
DESCRIPTION:Exclusive Birmingham breakfast on life sciences: leaders unite to tackle challenges and shape UK health innovation policy\nPlease note this is an invite only event\n*Expressions of interest to be sent to info@lifesciencesweek.co.uk* \nWest Midlands News\, and principal event sponsor\, the University of Birmingham’s College of Medicine and Health\, are hosting a Business Breakfast in Birmingham on Thursday 25th June. \nThe focus of this exclusive\, invite-only session – for 20 to 25 attendees – is the UK’s multi-billion-pound life sciences industry. \nDetails for the event: \nFrom established private businesses and medtech start-ups to the NHS clinicians\, pioneers of academia and civic leaders\, the aim is for a full\, frank and free-ranging conversation\, under Chatham House rules on the following topics: \n* Current pain points or blockers to progress\n* Areas the sector can collectively do better\n* Aspects of Government policy that need changing. \nThe aim is to conclude the session by coalescing around two or three asks of Government\, which will have a letter included\, signed by all attendees and other contacts in respective networks\, to go to the Health Secretary\, Chancellor of the Exchequer\, Secretary of State for Science\, Innovation and Technology\, and the Secretary of State for Business and Trade. \nWest Midlands News will also publish a news story on the business breakfast and the subsequent letter to the Government in West Midlands News\, alongside any opinion pieces from certain individuals\, to publicise how the life sciences sector in the Midlands region is speaking with one voice to effect meaningful change. As well as publishing in West Midlands News coverage\, other proactive PR to other media outlets\, including niche trade titles and mainstream outlets will be considered. \nThe session will begin with a brief tone-setting speech from our keynote speaker and sponsor\, Professor Neil Hanley\, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of the College of Medicine and Health\, followed by equally brief kick-off thoughts from Feroz Agad\, chief executive of SAH Diagnostics. \nA key aim of this business breakfast is to bring the great minds of the life sciences sector together to speak with a louder and clearer collective voice as we progress to establishing Birmingham and the West Midlands as an officially designated UK “health innovation zone.” \nAnd the timing is no coincidence\, taking place just over two months before Life Sciences Week\, a nationally significant programme of events taking place over five days in Birmingham and elsewhere from September 20 to 25. \nPlease note this is an invite only event; please email any expressions of interest to info@lifesciencesweek.co.uk
